Dungeondraft

Overview

Dungeondraft is a specialized, standalone map-making software designed specifically for creating high-quality TTRPG battlemaps. Developed by Megasploot (the creator of the world-building tool Wonderdraft), it was released in 2020 and has since become the industry favorite for GMs who want to build detailed, tactical maps without needing professional graphic design skills. It is famous for its "smart" tools that handle walls, lighting, and object scattering automatically, allowing a full encounter map to be completed in minutes.

Description

Dungeondraft bridges the gap between simple grid-sketching and complex image editors like Photoshop. It features a unique, hand-drawn aesthetic that fits perfectly with modern fantasy games. The software is built for efficiency; drawing a room automatically places floors and walls, and the integrated lighting engine allows you to place torches that cast realistic shadows in real-time. In 2026, it remains a "buy-once-own-forever" staple, free from the subscription models that have taken over much of the creative software market.

Key features

Smart Wall and Floor Tools

Building a structure is as simple as clicking and dragging. The tool automatically handles corners, joins, and textures. If you move a wall, the floor expands with it, and placing a window or door automatically "cuts" the wall to fit the asset.

Integrated Dynamic Lighting

Dungeondraft allows you to place light sources with customizable colors, intensity, and flicker. These lights interact with the walls you've drawn, casting shadows that provide an instant sense of depth and atmosphere to any dungeon or tavern.

Universal VTT Export

One of its most powerful features is the ability to export maps directly into formats for Foundry VTT, Roll20, and Fantasy Grounds. These exports include the "wall data" and "light data," meaning you don't have to redraw your walls in your virtual tabletop software.

Object Scattering and Paths

The Scatter Tool allows you to "paint" clutter like rocks, grass, or debris with randomized rotation and scale, making environments feel organic. The Path Tool lets you draw roads, rivers, or fences that follow a smooth curve automatically.

Massive Custom Asset Support

While the base software comes with a complete art style, the community has created thousands of additional packs. You can easily import assets from famous artists like Forgotten Adventures or Crosshead, allowing you to completely change the look of your maps.

Terrain and Water Painting

The software includes a multi-layered terrain brush that lets you blend different textures like sand, dirt, and grass. The water tool allows you to create pools and rivers with adjustable transparency and "edge foam" for a professional finish.

TableForge is an AI-powered virtual tabletop that runs your Dungeons & Dragons 5e games for you. Create a character, gather your party, and play through a living fantasy world guided by an AI Dungeon Master that narrates the story, runs combat, and reacts to whatever you decide to do. Every adventure generates its own characters, locations, encounters, and battle maps, so you can go from "let's play tonight" to actually playing in a few minutes. No DM, no prep, no scheduling marathon. /images/general-media/1785090300_1dWltGXR.png Full description TableForge started with a familiar problem: a group of friends who wanted to play D&D together but lived in different cities and could never get their calendars to line up. No regular DM, no reliable session night, just a game everyone wanted to play and no practical way to play it. TableForge is built for exactly that situation, whether you're a full party, two friends grabbing an hour, or one person who wants to disappear into a story alone. You create a character, start (or join) a campaign, and play in natural language. The AI Dungeon Master sets the scene, voices the NPCs, calls for rolls, runs encounters, and remembers what you've done, then responds to what you actually try, not just the path it expected. Talk your way past the guard, torch the bridge, befriend the monster you were sent to kill: the world reacts. That player-driven freedom is the point. The AI handles worldbuilding, encounter generation, and narration so the discovery, improvisation, and agency that make tabletop roleplaying worth it stay firmly in your hands. Under the hood, narration and rules are kept separate. A dedicated rules engine enforces 5e mechanics (AC and DCs, initiative, conditions, hit points, death saves) while the AI focuses on story and table feel. That split is why the DM can stay loose and responsive without losing track of your HP or fudging the math: the numbers are handled, so the storytelling stays free. Whether you want a one-shot, a months-long campaign, solo play, or a co-op night with friends scattered across time zones, TableForge runs in your browser (mobile, too!) and is ready whenever you are. /images/general-media/1785090304_bDgGCr3B.png Features AI Dungeon Master Runs the whole DM role: narrates scenes, voices NPCs, sets difficulty, calls for rolls, and resolves the action. It keeps the game moving, so a session feels like playing with a DM rather than filling out a form. Player-driven story The DM responds to whatever you actually try, and your choices carry forward as the campaign unfolds. The generation builds the world; you decide where the story goes. Real 5e rules, enforced A dedicated rules engine handles the mechanics (the d20 system, initiative, conditions, HP, death saves) instead of leaving them to the AI. Every roll is shown openly, so you can trust the result. Tactical combat and battle maps Fights generate a battle map and run by the book, with encounters tuned to your party. The mechanical state stays visible so you always know where everyone stands. Dynamic adventures and campaigns Every quest generates its own premise, locations, NPCs, and encounters. Campaigns persist across sessions, from quick one-shots to months-long stories as you climb toward level 20. Character creation and progression Build a full 5e hero (species, class, abilities, skills, gear) on a sheet that feels thematic, not like a spreadsheet. Level up and your features, HP, and inventory update as you go. Generated scene illustrations Key moments and locations are illustrated automatically, giving each scene a visual anchor instead of pure description. It does a lot for immersion in solo and remote play. Solo or multiplayer co-op Play solo for a focused story, or invite friends to share a campaign. Built for groups who can't get everyone together at the same time. No prep, play in your browser Nothing to install or prepare. Sign in with Google or Discord, make a character, and start playing in minutes from any browser or on your smartphone. Blog TableForge's blog has resources for players interested in using AI as a tool for their adventures: getting the most out of an AI DM, running solo and remote games, and notes on how the platform works. King Arthur Pendragon 6th Edition (2024)

High-Fantasy
English
Chaosium
King Arthur Pendragon is a tabletop roleplaying game of Arthurian chivalry, tragedy, and multi-generational legacy, originally designed by Greg Stafford and first published by Chaosium in 1985. It's one of the hobby's oldest continuously-revised games, having passed through five earlier editions and several publishers (including Green Ronin's Arthaus imprint and Nocturnal Media) before returning to Chaosium, who released the 6th Edition in April 2024.  Stafford completed the design draft for this edition before his death in 2018, with longtime Pendragon line editor David Larkins overseeing it to print - a fact the game's own promotional copy leans into, framing it as the culmination of nearly forty years of Stafford's design thinking on the setting. Description Players take on knights of Arthur's Britain, sworn to a lord and bound by a code of chivalry the game asks characters - and players - to genuinely wrestle with rather than simply declare. The Game Master (GM) runs a campaign built to span decades of in-world time: between adventures, a Winter Phase resolves a knight's marriage, estate management, aging, and family events, and campaigns are explicitly designed to carry a player from their original knight's prime through old age and into playing that knight's own heir.  The game asks a lot of a table willing to commit to it - character death by old age is expected, not a failure state, and a knight's personal flaws are written onto the character sheet where they can force bad decisions at the worst possible moment. In exchange, it delivers something few other RPGs attempt: a genuinely generational campaign where a table can watch the consequences of one knight's choices land on their grandchild decades later.
