THE MISSION: The USS Tranquility has been sent to study the Magna Oscura Nebula, an immense gas cloud traveling from restricted space into Federation territory at an appreciable fraction of lightspeed. They have made contact with an aquatic alien species called the Cavna, whose planet lies in the path of the mysterious nebula, as well as the IRW Karg, a Romulan warbird whose commanding officer has been searching for her lover, who was lost in the nebula years ago. Now equipped with the means to enter the nebula's dense, dangerous core, the motley fleet explore a new realm full of strange factions, rogue planets, and powerful extradimensional entities to learn the nebula's secrets and save an entire civilization from destruction.
