Dune: Adventures in the Imperium (2021)

Roleplaying on Arrakis and beyond

Overview

Dune: Adventures in the Imperium is a tabletop roleplaying game of political intrigue, feudal warfare, and desert survival set in Frank Herbert's Dune universe, published by Modiphius Entertainment with lead designer Nathan Dowdell heading a large credited design team. It released in 2021, timed alongside Denis Villeneuve's Dune film, running on a version of Modiphius's house 2d20 System adapted specifically for the setting's politics-first, duel-heavy tone. The system is a setting-specific adaptation of Modiphius's 2d20 System, the same engine family behind Star Trek Adventures and Fallout: The Roleplaying Game.

Description

Players build elite agents in service to a noble House - Mentats, Swordmasters, Bene Gesserit Sisters, Spies, devious Advisors, or Fremen of the deep desert - and, before a single character is even built, the whole table designs that House together in a dedicated House-creation mini-game, deliberately keeping play away from the canon Houses Atreides or Harkonnen.  The Game Master runs missions where combat is only one of several ways a scene can go wrong: duels, skirmishes, open warfare, espionage, and courtly intrigue all resolve through the same underlying system, and a table can just as easily spend a session at a negotiating table as on a battlefield. The game leans hard into its source material's core promise - that plans, loyalty, and leverage usually matter more than a blade - and asks players to think as much about their House's long game as their character's next roll.

Dune: Adventures in the Imperium

Roleplay focused
Conversation, character and story take up most of the table time.

DUNE: HEIRS TO THE DARK Yesterday you served the Great Houses. Today you are one. Welcome to the Great Game. Knife fights in space. Poison in the spice tea. Duels over matters that could probably have been settled with a bit of wit and some conversation. Chases, betrayals, very expensive clothing, and extremely questionable decisions. The Emperor has elevated your House and granted you a world of your own. Now comes the fun part: keeping it! Of course, nobody gives away a world without a reason. Create a House, its characters, and the world you've inherited. Make allies and enemies. Navigate the Landsraad. Bargain with the Spacing Guild. Build a fortune - or lose one. Settle old scores and make new enemies. Decide what kind of rulers your House will be. Political intrigue • House building • Exploration • Mystery • Adventure New players welcome. No knowledge of the Dune RPG, movies, or novels required.

Hey, I am an experienced DnD GM, but I would love to try a new system specifically Dune: Adventures in the Imperium a 2d20 system by Modipheus. It's easy to pick up and very good for roleplaying!  You will play as your own custom made House under the (evil) Harkonnen trying to gain more power and leverage on the planet Arrakis while trying to outwit both your overlords and possible rivals! Dealing with the elusive Fremen, sneaky smugglers and the ever present threat of the Great Sandworms... The plan is to play a campaign of around 10 sessions of around 2/3 hours!  I am 25 years old, male and Nederlands!

The storyteller Long-haul adventurer
I've been a World of Darkness player since the mid-'90s, though I haven't played as much since college and I'd like to change that. Vampire: the Masquerade is my personal favorite, but I like all the classic WoD lines. I also would like to try some other, lesser-known systems, but I have much less familiarity with their rulesets. I'm a roleplayer first, but I do enjoy some combat as well; I can get into most types of stories, though I'm usually not wild about romance. I like anything that really allows a deep, sustained exploration of the setting and its themes, as well as the backstories of all the characters involved. I'd love to find a weekly game, but as long as the schedule is consistent, I can be flexible.

The problem solver Mini-campaign fan
Hey there! I'm a 10-year rpg veteran and 7-year forever GM. Most of my playing experience is with 2014 5e, but I've really enjoyed branching out into all sorts of other games. I think I'm at 12 systems GM'd these days, though I'd love the chance to play in more. I'm broadly free on Sunday-to-Wednesday evenings (GMT), but only my Thursday evenings are absolute non-starters. I enjoy a little bit of everything but definitely lean most strongly towards narrative, intrigue, problem-solving stuff. I'm not a fan of DnD's slow, attritional combat but I'd be interested to see if other games (Draw Steel, 13th Age, etc) handle this better. I'm a big fan of pulpy historical fiction like Bernard Cornwell's, as well as the Wheel of Time, Dragon Age, and Star Wars. I've been gaming since the early 80s. I suck at bios. I have played a bazillion games, and am willing to learn new systems. I prefer long term campaigns, with  focus on roleplay and character development. I haven't listed all games I've played/own, because there's far too many.
