Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game

Overview

Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game is a cosmic horror tabletop roleplaying game about investigators in 1920s New England, published by Edge Studio, the roleplaying arm of Asmodee, together with Fantasy Flight Games. The Core Rulebook, a 256-page hardcover, reached stores in November 2024 and includes the full rules, a guide to Arkham, Massachusetts and the surrounding Miskatonic River Valley, a chapter on the Ancient Ones and their servants, and a complete adventure, "Terror at the Tick-Tock Club". A beginner-focused boxed set, Welcome to Promise, was announced for July 2026 and moves the action to a town in 1920s Louisiana. The game shares its setting with Fantasy Flight Games' Arkham Horror line of board, card and dice games, but runs on its own engine, the Dynamic Pool System (DPS).

Description

Players take on investigators drawn from eight pulp-inspired archetypes, who look into strange events, track down occult clues and face things the human mind isn't built to understand. The Game Master runs scenes of conversation, exploration and, occasionally, violence, with dread building through the investigators' own sanity and health pools rather than through a separate monster roster alone. The game asks for a fiction-first table. Rolls are made in the open, clues aren't locked behind dice, and the GM is expected to say yes to creative ideas rather than send players back to their sheets. It is a game where failure can wreck a character's mind or body, and the rulebook includes advice on setting up a safe table and checking in about sensitive themes beforehand.

RuneQuest (2018)

RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha (RQG) is a mythic fantasy tabletop roleplaying game set in Greg Stafford's Bronze Age world of Glorantha, published by Chaosium in 2018. It is credited to Jeff Richard, Greg Stafford, Jason Durall, and Steve Perrin, with a long list of contributors from earlier editions. RuneQuest first appeared from Chaosium in 1978 and has passed through several publishers since, including Avalon Hill (third edition, 1984), Mongoose Publishing (2006), and The Design Mechanism (sixth edition, 2012, later continued as Mythras). RQG is the Chaosium-published line that returned to Glorantha, and it is a different game from those later editions. The system directly evolved from the original RuneQuest (1978), whose percentile core was later distilled into Chaosium's Basic Role-Playing, the engine behind Call of Cthulhu and Pendragon. Description Players take on adventurers from the clans and tribes of Dragon Pass, from homelands such as Sartar, Prax, the Grazelands, Esrolia, and Tarsh, in a world where gods are neighbors and myths are history.  The Game Master (GM) runs a setting built around cults, clan feuds, and the Hero Wars gathering on the horizon, and characters belong to a family, a homeland, and a religion before they ever pick up a sword. The game asks a table to take that seriously: combat is lethal, shields shatter and limbs get disabled, and there are no luck points to buy a character out of a bad round. In return it offers one of the hobby's most fully realized worlds, where a character's gods, ancestors, and passions shape play as much as their weapon skill.

Toolkit
Forge Steel is a community-developed, locally-hosted web application and digital utility designed for Draw Steel, the cinematic fantasy tabletop role-playing game created by MCDM Productions. Developed by independent community members during the game's playtest phase, the application functions as a lightweight encounter builder and combat manager. It is specifically built to assist Directors in organizing game data and tracking real-time combat statistics during a session. Description Forge Steel serves as a digital toolkit for preparing and executing combat encounters in Draw Steel. In contrast to cloud-based alternatives, Forge Steel relies on local browser storage. This means the application does not require users to create an account or rely on external servers to save their data. All created encounters, customized monsters, and campaign notes are stored directly within the cache of the user's web browser. This architecture prioritizes data privacy, offline accessibility, and fast load times, though it requires manual file exporting to transfer data between different devices.
