Mage: The Ascension

Overview

Mage: The Ascension is a modern-day supernatural roleplaying game created by Stewart Wieck and a team of designers at White Wolf Publishing, first released in 1993 as the third of White Wolf's original
World of Darkness https://groupfinder.gg/library/world-of-darkness
game lines, following
Vampire: The Masquerade https://www.groupfinder.gg/library/vampire-the-masquerade-5e-2018
and
Werewolf: The Apocalypse
. It went through a second edition in 1995 and a Revised Edition in 2000, largely overseen by Phil Brucato, before Onyx Path Publishing released the 20th Anniversary Edition in 2015, the version most tables run today. Where Vampire is about hunger and Werewolf is about rage, Mage is about belief: player characters are ordinary people who have Awakened to the understanding that reality itself is negotiable, and the game is built entirely around the consequences of acting on that understanding.

I've been a World of Darkness player since the mid-'90s, though I haven't played as much since college and I'd like to change that. Vampire: the Masquerade is my personal favorite, but I like all the classic WoD lines. I also would like to try some other, lesser-known systems, but I have much less familiarity with their rulesets. I'm a roleplayer first, but I do enjoy some combat as well; I can get into most types of stories, though I'm usually not wild about romance. I like anything that really allows a deep, sustained exploration of the setting and its themes, as well as the backstories of all the characters involved. I'd love to find a weekly game, but as long as the schedule is consistent, I can be flexible.

Old-timer who enjoys collaborative character-driven narratives! Preference I love long theatrical games with small groups of three or four where trust replaces the need for contraints. Where the focus is collaborating on building a story, developing characters, navigating social intrigue, diving into schemes and just having fun being creative together. Where the world and the cast is believable and relatable to some degree. I might lean towards the more serious, dark and dystopian games but I absolutely enjoy the occasional organic comedy, absurd situations and lots memes on the side. As a contrast, my least favourite games are those with large groups that's all about combat, optimising, winning and doing progression in a strict system. I prefer when everyone is on cam and I'm used to playing bi-weekly games of 3-4 hours. It's a good fit for me but I am not married to it. Playstyle I like to describe my character's actions in third person, speak as them and take some liberty to describe negligible parts of a scene when it involves my character. I like to stay in-character as much as possible and acting along a little bit on camera but I can adjust to most ways of playing. I'm very aware of the meta layer in games, all the unspoken information that goes on behind the scenes that can help setup spotlights and great moments, not just for my own character but for everyone at the table. I love setting other players up to shine and being as inclusive about the group as possible. I don't like when someone wanders off or doesn't get any spotlight. Also a big fan of lines and veils, and handling friction constructively post-session. Experience I've been into roleplaying games since the turn of the millenia where my curiosity was initially sparked by AD&D and Black Isles videogames. Since then I've played dozens of systems and spent possibly thousands of hours at the table as both player and gamemaster but I've put a pause on running games in recent years until my health is better. I've been into all the crunch of D&D and Pathfinder, the more deductive and psychological games like Delta Green, Eclipse Phase and the varities of World of Darkness, and lately I've been dabbling in more collaboration focused games like Blades in the Dark and The Wildsea. About me I'm in my forties and retired. I got a lot of free time which I'd like to spend more of on TTRPGs. It gives me a lot of flexibility for game sessions and I'm happy to spend time on all the practical stuff around games as well to take some of the load off what usually falls on the gamemaster. I've been told I can be a little intense up front since I'm not the shy type and I can get passionate about games, but once people get to know me, they often find me pretty easy going. Aside from that, I should mention that I've suffered some damage to the cartilage around my throat that can make my voice strain during long sessions. Online Setup Stationary computer at a desk with a decent camera and headset, a stable internet connection, an extra cam (DroidCam+OBS) for peripherals if needed, and I got the entire place to myself, so hopefully no interruptions. Previous experience using Discord, roll20, Foundry VTT, Google Docs and Notion as online tools for games. Give me a poke if you think I'd be a good fit for your game! Hi! After around 7 years of constantly DMing (and 3 years without being a player at all) I'm looking for a group to join in. I'm 25 nb (any pronouns) working person with a cute cat and a lot of scheduling flexibility. English is not my first language, but I'm pretty good at using it for games and other stuff (Well, I'm writing it, so-). Mainly I had experience DMing VtM and I love the world and the system. Ideally, I would prefer to join a VtM chronicle or something else WoD adjustent, but atp I'm open to anything. Schedule: I'm open to any time/day except for Monday and Sunday (Sometimes Saturday, but I will tell you a week before). So what do I have in stock? - Passionate player. I'm usually REALLY into the game. I make memes, I draw and I engage. I WILL interact with NPCs, hints, little pieces of lore and whatever DM has to offer. - Sharing spotlight. I understand how important it is for everyone to have their time to shine and I love to hear and see what other PCs have to offer! - Respecting the DM and other players. I understand all the struggles of being a DM firsthand, so I won't put the DM through the same stuff. I do little to no metagame or rule lawyering, except when I have out of character question regarding something (however, I will not do things like ACTUALLY trains dont work that way). I value the time of people involved and always notify if something goes wrong beforehand. I won't give any unnecessary feedback unless asked for (although I'm usually very positive to any stuff) - No-drama person. I just want to live a quiet life and enjoy my games without irl drama (Several of my games died cuz of player's drama). Even IF I will have problems with another player, I tend to separate game and reality. - Direct. I will not dissapear on you or keep quiet if something is wrong-wrong (like I got triggered or offended), I know how to speak words through my mouth, lmao. But it's all out of the game, of course, I don't tend to ruin anyone's fun. - I'm actually roleplaying. I LOVE theathricals and to be in-character during the game. I also understand that any in-game stuff doesn't affect our out-of-the-game relationships or views. Also, I have very miniscule amount of themes I find offensive (in-game) or triggering. After all I like WoD and it often tends to touch sensitive stuff. - Well, I can DM in the future, since I love doing it! But for now I need a little break. As a side note it's completely okay if u wanna interview me before the game to see if we vibe with each other. What I'm looking for? - Free to play game. Honestly, I don't find this type of games genuine enough, but I will gladly donate to DM if I have some spare money as a thank-you :) - Narratively-driven game. Although I know that sometimes battle mechanics and other stuff is neccessary, I like to be able to connect with other characters, NPC, play my character and have some drama of course. - Openminded DM. I would prefer to have a DM who is not super to-the-book type. Sometimes, scene needs cinematography for the sake of cinematography and it's often tend to bend some rules. Also, I'm very open to homebrews and other stuff, so it would be cool if DM was too. Although, to be honest my most homebrew stuff was pink tiefling lol. - LGBTQA+/neurodivergent friendly group. I want to play with people where I can be openly myself and don't need to mask or anything. If you think that we're a match made in heaven - I will be glad to get to know you or your group!

Hello all. I am Tyler (he/him) (under 18 but over 15) (AEDT) and I have 4 years of experience as a player and 3 years as a GM. I would love to find new games to join as a player. I am someone that enjoys playing character driven and story based game. I'm not really a megadungeon kind of guy. But I do enjoy some combat. Let's say 50:50 RP: combat ratio with it being ok if the roleplay is higher up to 100:0 I am looking for an online weekly or fortnightly table that is sometime from 6:00 PM to 7:00 AM AEDT except for on Saturday and Monday where it is from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM AEDT Even though my most played game is DnD, I enjoy playing other systems like Alien the roleplaying Game, Pathfinder and others. I am always down to learn a new game. If you made it this far, I hope I have left a good impression. My favourite video game at the moment is Baldur's Gate 3, My favourite books are Brandon Sanderson Cosmere and Star Trek Q-Squared and finally my dream job is to be a video game programmer.
